- This week, I had to inspect another few carpets had already been “professionally cleaned”.
- One of particular concern was a carpet that, even after having been cleaned twice, one room still had a smell of cat urine AND the new tenant was reacting badly with a rash developing all over her as she is highly allergic to cats.
- Upon inspecting, it was difficult to find as it wasn’t showing up under UV or really reacting to a moisture probe. In the end I couldn’t definitively find the urine, so instead I decided to closer inspect the carpet for evidence of fur or dander.
- I got down on my knees to inspect it visually, and suddenly got a strong waft of the smell – turns out it was in the centre of the room, which is unusual as cats normally prefer walls or corners. A quick check with the moisture meter confirmed it.
- A quick vacuum of 2m2 also netted a substantial amount of fur and dander – no wonder she was reacting!
- So now we have been asked to go in and give them a 3rd clean… a proper one this time so this poor tenant can have some relief!
