- Had a job that Carl attended this week, where a child had vomited on a wool carpet – not pleasant I know but the sort of thing we have to deal with from time to time.
- Normally these jobs are fairly straightforward for us, but in this case it turned out to be anything but!
- You see the problem was that they had already called somebody else in to “clean” the stain and to be fair, they had used some product or another to attempt it.
- Only problem was that it and their methodology was somewhat inappropriate for wool as upon Carl’s arrival, there was an abundance of detergent still trapped within the fibres.
- So Carl set about rinsing, then rinsing some more and then still more… only to find that the carpet was actually damaged from both the detergent load and agitation it had suffered at the hands of the other “tech”. Unfortunately, there was nothing more that could be done to salvage the carpet, the damage was done.
- The cost for the previous attempt: $80!
- The expertise level of the previous attempt? Nil.
- The cost to the client? They are now considering an insurance claim – but this could have been avoided had they called someone in with some sort of qualifications such as we have.
Moral of the story- cheap is often cheap for a reason and not always value!
