- Reporting on carpet issues for warranty claims is another thing we do.
- This week I called in to inspect a complaint of colour variances on a job. Looking at the carpet. It seemed as though one side of the join was different in colour to the other side. But, when I played around with the lighting, I could get the dark and light sides to flip from dark to light dependent upon the angle of light, which I was then able to show the customer.
- The issue is what is called “seam peaking”, where the join doesn’t sit perfectly flat. When this happens, whichever side the light is coming from appears lighter, whereas the other side appears darker as the peak is actually casting a shadow. But hold the light directly overhead, and the colour magically evens out.
- So it turned out not to be a carpet fault, but a laying issue instead!
